Most of you know that my top craving is ice cream. Summer is the perfect excuse to eat ice cream on a regular basis.

Well how can I satisfied my craving and not worry about the calorific value of traditional ice cream? By making my own vegan ice cream, without any added sugar or fat. The secret ingredient to this healthy and extremely delicious ice cream is Banana! And I bet you, this ice cream taste even better than those store bought sugar loaded ice cream.

Well I’m not just sharing one flavor with you, I’ll be sharing 3 flavours with you – strawberry, chocolate and vanilla, with a little twist.

So the core ingredient to make this recipe is sliced, frozen bananas. For each ice cream flavour, slice 2 medium over-ripe bananas and freeze them for at least 4 hours or overnight. If you are thinking, well I don’t really like the taste of banana, don’t worry, you can barely taste it. Banana provides the creamy and rich texture to this healthy ice cream.

1) Chunky Strawberry (Serves 3)

Berries are filling the market this season and I managed to get a really good bargain recently where I paid only £2 for 3 large boxes of strawberries and 2 large boxes of blueberries. To make my Chunky Strawberry Ice Cream, the ingredients you’ll need are:

INGREDIENTS:
- 2 medium (236g) Frozen Bananas, sliced – 210Cals
- ½ cup (76g) frozen Strawberries, sliced – 25Cals
- ¼ cup (38g) Strawberries, diced into small cubes- 12.5Cals

Total Cals – 247.5
PER SERVING – 82.5Cals

STEPS:
1) Place frozen bananas and ½ a cup of frozen strawberries into a food processor or blender. Blend until thick and creamy.
2) Depending on how frozen your bananas are, you may need to scrape down the sides of the bowl and keep blending until smooth. And you have strawberry ice cream!
3) Transfer your strawberry ice cream into a freezer safe container, and add in the ¼ cup of diced strawberries. Combine well.

You may choose to serve immediately, or you can freeze it up and it should last for 1-2 weeks. Because it tastes so good, you will most likely finish this in a couple of days!

And because fruits are so low in calories, they always make the healthy snack list. This one serving only has 82.5Cals. So pick your favourite berry, or choose another fruit of your choose and make this!

2) Crunchy Peanut Butter Chocolate (Serves 2)

Peanut butter & chocolate are a match made in heaven. Haagen-Daz, Baskin Robins and Ben & Jerry’s are famous for them. So let’s make our own healthier version instead. The ingredients you’ll need are:

INGREDIENTS:
- 2 medium (236g) Frozen Bananas, sliced – 210Cals (0.71g)
- 1 tbsp (7g) Cocoa Powder – 18Cals (1.52g Fat)
- 1 tbsp (16g) Crunchy Peanut Butter – 94Cals (7.36g fat)
- 1 tbsp (10g) Dark Chocolate pieces, finely diced – 52Cals (3.1g fat)

Total Cals – 374Cals (12.69g fat)
PER SERVING – 187Cals

STEPS:
1) Just like the 1st recipe, blend frozen bananas in a food processor or blender until thick and creamy.
2) Then add cocoa powder and peanut butter. Continue to process until all the ingredients are well combined.
3) Transfer into a freezer safe container, and stir in the dark chocolate pieces. And you have your Crunchy Peanut Butter Chocolate Ice Cream!

This ice cream is so rich with flavor and texture. I like to use crunchy peanut butter because you will taste the crunchiness from the nuts and also the chocolate chunks. One serving has 187 calories.

Here’s a comparison, my ice cream per 100g has 139 Cals and 4.72g Fat, mainly healthy fat. On the other hand, Haagen Daaz’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream has 312Cals and 21g of fat. That’s more than double the amount of calories and more than 4 times the amount of fat!

So when you are craving for Haagen Daz like I always am, make this instead, which is way healthier, cheaper and much lower in calories and fat!

3) Creamy Vanilla Raisin (Serves 2)

Finally, let’s go back to the basic of making simple and delicious vanilla ice cream with added raisins. Here are the ingredients:

INGREDIENTS:
- 2 medium (236g) Frozen Bananas, sliced – 210Cals
- ½ tsp Vanilla extract – 6Cals
- 1 tbsp (13g) Raisins, roughly chopped – 40Cals

Total Cals – 256Cals
PER SERVING – 128Cals

STEPS:
1) Blend frozen bananas in a food processor or blender until thick and creamy.
2) Then add vanilla extract and raisins. Continue to process until all the ingredients are well combined.

Your Vanilla Raisin ice cream is ready in less than 3 minutes! You’ll get a hint of vanilla, plus the chewy and natural sweetness from the raisins. Treating yourself to sweet dessert or snack doesn’t always mean adding sugar, get the naturally sweetness from fruits instead and turn them into something magical.

It’s always a good time to have ice cream. You can have it as your snack, breakfast or even as a healthy late night snack. These ice creams are also perfect treats for your children and you can even make it with them.

I can’t pick a favourite because all of them taste so delicious! I would just mix them up and have 3 different flavours.
